Entrepreneur finds new use for mangroves, carving out cosy spaces which he rents by the hour. Free mosquito coils thrown in for good measure, lest lovers are interrupted at first bite.
The unquenchable demand for private spaces in Mumbai and the city's legendary entrepreneurial spirit have combined to turn mangroves in Navi Mumbai into lovers' secret chambers.

Early on Friday evening, the Vashi police busted eight to ten make-shift shelters set deep inside the mangrove jungle abutting Mini Chowpatty, a popular hangout of Navi Mumbai, that were being rented out to couples in search of a few moments of privacy.
The rates charged were reasonable - Rs 100 per hour with a mosquito coil free, because swarms for mosquitoes often joined frisky partners in the frenzy.
These shelters were located 10 to 15 metres deep into the mangroves just off Mini Chowpatty's popular jogging track with narrow, tunnel-like paths leading to the sex pads.
Surrounded by mangroves and some clumsily collected foliage from all sides, the 10 feet-by-10 feet bald patches had thermocol blocks covered by flex posters as beds.
You could be jogging and inside there in the mangroves it could be the Italian PM with all his bunga bunga girls and would not see a thing.
The unusual activity - couples disappearing into the mangroves and a tout collecting money - however caught this reporter's attention early on Friday evening.
A little investigation, a walk around the mangroves and a conversation with the tout revealed the racket and also a couple startled by the intrusion.
When the matter was reported to Senior Inspector, Vashi, Raosaheb Sardesai, he sent a raiding party to the spot and rounded up five couples. The tout, however, managed to slip away.

Mini Chowpatty is popular with residents of Vashi, Nerul, Belapur and Ghansoli nodes.
People from all walks of life frequent the creek-front to relax in its gardens, jog or enjoy a speed boat/pedal boat ride.
That this leisure spot was turned into a sleazy make-out joint by touts taking advantage of young couples’ need for privacy has come as a shock to the residents of the area.

People also questioned how these love shacks were allowed to be constructed in the first phase. “This clearly involves hacking of mangroves and then dumping debris to level the ground.
Where were the cops and the municipal authorities when all this was being done,” said a resident of Vashi who did not wish to be identified.

After several unsuccessful raids, police team finds secret door to hidden section of a dance bar only to be confronted by ferocious guard dogs, suicidal bar dancers

What should have been a routine raid for an experienced posse of police personnel, turned out to be a scene from a James Bond flick.

The police were watching Duru Bar, a notorious bar in the Ulhasnagar area, for sometime. Each time they conducted a raid, they came up with nothing to present in court.

Each time the bar was raided, the dancers used the secret passage behind an unused refrigerator to disappear within seconds
On entering the secret tunnel and ascending the stairs to the terrace, the police team was attacked by two ferocious Dobermans

Cornered on the terrace, the dancers were prepared to jump off rather than get arrested.

After seven unsuccessful raids by Smita Pathak, ACP, Ambernath division, at the bar over the past three months, and two futile raids by senior inspector Deepak Kurulkar during the same period, Duru bar continued business since no incriminating evidence could be found to press charges.
Following the raids, the bar owner filed a writ petition in the Bombay High Court alleging police harassment and stating that the only entertainment at the Duru bar was an orchestra and not dance bar as suspected.
When questioned, inspector Kurulkar informed the court that he had raided Duru Bar on orders from Police Commissioner SPS Yadav.
The case was still unsolved and Commissioner Yadav decided to use the oldest trick in the book he used an informer, posing as a client, all the while passing on vital information of how the bar owners and his clients were evading the dragnet.
Acting on information that several policemen, politicians and bookies were being entertained by bar dancers while gambling, the police team decided to conduct the raid.
Tip-off and raid
Thane police commissioner SPS Yadav and his experienced team had conducted several raids in the past; however, nothing could have prepared them for what happened next.
According to one officer, the drama unfolded around midnight when the squad headed by Assistant Commissioner of Police VM Rathod raided the bar, but unknown to them, someone had tipped off the bar workers about the raid.
Drama begins
Their initial search within the bar came up with nothing incriminating; however the informer posing as a client, confirmed the presence of a large number of clients of questionable character.
After a thorough search, the police team discovered a secret doorway concealed behind an unused refrigerator that led through a wall, which then led to a staircase.
It was through this door that the bar girls had managed to slip away seconds before the raid began.

The police team rushed to the terrace and was soon halted in its tracks by two menacing Dobermans. One team member was almost mauled by the ferocious dogs.
The drama continued after the cops managed to subdue the dogs and they realised, to their horror, that five bar dancers were balanced precariously on the fourth storey terrace wall and were threatening to jump off if attempts were made to arrest them.
After much convincing, Rathod and his men managed to get the dancers to come down from their dangerous perch.
During the round up after the raid, 27 bar girls and 72 clients were arrested. "We have arrested 27 bar girls and several customers including the bar manager," said Rathod.
"Yes, it is true that the police team encountered fierce dogs on the terrace," he added.

The police said that once the girls identified 'special customers' they offered 'special services', which were different type of massages.

Adoption centres say increasing number of unwed couples bringing in babies

If what adoption centres say is anything to go by, the city is fast becoming a place where teenage pregnancies are on the rise.

Adoption centres in the city say that they have had cases of teenagers including college students in live-in relationships approaching them with unwanted love children. At Society of Friends of Sassoon General Hospital (SOFOSH) there have been three to four such cases in the 3-6 months Three months ago, an engineering college couple approached them with their child.

"It is sad and shocking but it is true that such cases have happened recently. It is a worrying scenario because these students are educated, have access to information and also resources like chemists and doctors to terminate unwanted pregnancies. Yet there have been cases, where they had reached a stage when the pregnancy could not be terminated and they did not want the child," said Madhuri Abhyankar, director of SOFOSH.

Live-in couples

She gave the example of a recent case where a young couple from a popular engineering college came to the centre and said that they wanted to put their unborn child up for adoption. The couple was in a live-in relationship and did not want to inform their parents or get married. In another case, a medical student couple was in a live-in relationship. The couple, which is expected to get medical degrees next year, gave up the child for adoption immediately the day after he was born.

Abhyankar said that couples often come to them after the fifth month of pregnancy, after which termination becomes risky. "First we counsel them to confide in their parents and get married. However because of certain societal pressures if they cannot do so then we help them get enrolled in a hospital to have the childbirth as they find it difficult to do so. As soon as the baby is born, it is taken into our care. Although we have been requesting the birth mothers to come and at least breast feed their child," said Abhyankar.

Counselling

Counsellors at adoption centres too have had a few stray cases. At Koregaon Park's Bhartiya Samaj Seva Kendra too, there have been cases of college students coming to them with problems of unwanted pregnancies. "It is shocking because these kids are so young. But the centre has been trying to help them out. Even the couples go through an emotionally tough time giving up their children at such a young age," said a volunteer.

Gynaecologists agree that unwanted teenage pregnancies are on the rise in the city.

"The main problem is that youngsters depend on the morning-after pill which can have its own failure rate.

There have been cases of youngsters coming to us at a late stage of pregnancy stating that despite having the emergency pill they became pregnant. And because they are so young, they keep quiet until it is too late as they feel shy to consult doctors," said gynaecologist Dr Uma Wankhede.

Psychiatrist Dr Jyoti Shetty said part of the problem is lack of sex education at a young stage of life.

"Teenagers need to be taught basic sex education at school level itself so that youngsters are aware of contraception and even remedies if unwanted pregnancy occurs. Rather than being judgemental, parents should have open discussions and connect with their children. If such a situation arises, kids can confide in them. And most important if kids are living away from home, parents should know what they are up to and be in touch with them," she said.

Telugu film actresses among nine held for prostitution

New Delhi In a significant remark, the Supreme Court asked the Centre whether it can legalise prostitution if it is not practically possible to curb the world's oldest profession with punitive measures.

"When you say it is the world's oldest profession and when you are not able to curb it by laws, why don't you legalise it? You can then monitor the trade, rehabilitate and provide of medical aid to those involved in the trade," a bench of Justices Dalveer Bhandari and A K Patnaik told Solicitor General Gopal Subramaniam.
The apex court said legalising sex trade would be a better option to avoid trafficking of women and said nowhere in the world has the trade been curbed by punitive measures.
"They (sex trade) have been operating in one way or the other and nowhere in the world have they been able to curb it by legislation. In some cases, they are carried out in a sophisticated manner. So why don't you legalise it?" the apex court said, to which the Solicitor General said he would look into it.
The apex court's remarks came while dealing with a PIL filed by an NGO Bachpan Bachao Andolan and the intervention application moved by Childline complaining about large scale child trafficking in the country.

It may have given the world the Kama Sutra and the Bollywood wet sari scene, but it appears that India is not yet ready to be exposed to the delicate subject of sex on the internet.

A Guardian investigation has discovered that several internet companies have quietly introduced filters to prevent Indian users from accessing sexual content.

The Yahoo search engine and Flickr photo-sharing site (owned by Yahoo) altered their sites earlier this month to prevent users in India from switching off the safe-search facility. The block also applies to users in Singapore, Hong Kong and Korea.

Microsoft has also barred Indian users of its Bing search engine from searching for sexual content. Users who do try to search for sexual material receive a notice informing them that "your country or region requires a strict Bing SafeSearch setting, which filters out results that might return adult content".

The clampdown is understood to be in response to recent changes to India's Information Technology Act of 2000, which bans the publication of pornographic material.

That law, which is based on a 150-year-old statute (section 292 of the Indian penal code), defines obscenity as "any content that is lascivious and that will appeal to prurient interest or the effect of which is to tend to deprave or corrupt the minds of those who are likely to see, read or hear the same".

In October, the scope of the 2000 act was dramatically widened to enable action to be taken against a wide range of providers, from internet search engines and internet service providers to cyber-cafes. Under the new law, they are obliged to exercise due diligence and disable access to any content which contravenes the act. Failure to do so carries a three-year jail sentence and a fine of up to 500,000 rupees (£6,690).

Search engine reports suggest that users in India are responsible for more searches for "sex" than those in any other country. Its popular daily newspapers are packed with pictures of young women in states of undress and Bollywood oozes sexuality from every pore.

But at the same time it remains a deeply religious country in which traditionalists regularly take violent offence at anything deemed to be too suggestive.

The latest attempts to constrain internet users come at a time when the vexed subject of sexual behaviour is once again dominating the domestic headlines.

Last week an Indian news channel broadcast video footage of a man said to be the 86-year-old governor of Andhra Pradesh, Narayan Datt Tiwari, in bed with three young women. He quit on Sunday, citing health reasons and still denying that the man in the video was him.

"What's OK in your backyard may not be OK in theirs. Each one of us bears the responsibility of categorising our own content within this landscape. So, we've introduced some filters to help everyone try to get along.

Recently I watched few episodes of new TV show Sach ka samana. It looks very new reality TV show concept in India. Here participant has to give true answer of every question, which is very personal. To know truthfulness of the answer polygraph machine is used. Here I am not going to discuss detail and rule of this show as I assume most of us have watched its episode. No doubt concept is new and good but here I have some confusion. I watched very first episode of this show where a married female was participant I really don’t remember her name but what I can collect she was around few years married with two kids having complete family life. I was observing the question she was being asked and very surprised as she was accepting the painful truth for most of the question. She had almost won Rs 5 lacs after giving around 11 truths, she was continuing and questions were getting more & more personal. But I realized most of the questions were based on personal feeling and thinking, which I felt is not fair. Like female was asked question like

* Do you feel that someone else looks better than your husband?

* Do you feel your mother loves your brother more than you?

* Did you ever felt to kill your husband?

If you ask me, I feel that they are just pathetic questions and originally have no specific or correct answer. As feeling or thinking is unintentional process in human brain and most of the time is not logical, even has no value/effect. If you try to compare following two questions you might understand what I am trying to say.

1. If you ask a person Other than your wife did you ever had sex with some girl?

2. Other than your wife did you ever feel to have sex with some girl?

If you see here first question is very much relevant and person answering will be very much clear as what is the truth, while second question is very confusing for any one as no-one even remembers that what he felt just 5 minutes before and if he felt something as such what was the intensity of such feeling, if intensity is very low than really such feeling doesn’t have any value and impact on individual’s character, moral or personality. What I understand from this show, they ask most of the time question based on feeling or thinking and try to confuse the person as no body can actually proof what he felt or not. I was shocked when this female was asked the question as other than your husband did you felt about other man, first it needs to be clearly defined if someone felt then actually on what extends. Even it is possible with most of us when we watch some beautiful actress in movie doing some bold scene and for a second it comes in mind WOW, a feeling for moment and it goes, then if it has to be blamed as I felt for that girl, I don’t think this is fare at all.

If this show really has to succeed, I think they will have to go towards event based questions, which have clear answers and what people actually want to know.

Yesterday I got the news from various TV news channel that Shiny Ahuja, who is a very successfull bollywood acter was arrested by Mumbai police in case of raping his maid. Shiny Ahuja is married to a beautiful wife and has a daughter as well. When I got the news I couldn't believe it and thought it may be some publicity stunt or may be false balme by her maid. But today news came as Shiny has accepted his crime.

The maid was working at shiny place for last 1 and 1/2 month and that day shiny's wife and daughter were out of town and he was alone at home with maid, when forcefully he had sex with her maid.
This looks really pathetic. How a person on such a successful position and having great family life can take such steps, which eventually can his spoil his whole carrier, family life and can put his self and his family in such a shapefull and ambarrising position.

The news came on 17th Apr 2009 that a 23-year old student of Tata Institute of social sciences was gang-rapped by six friends on Saturday night. The girl was an american national but Indian origin as per the news she was staying in TISS hostel only as she was there in India to do a four month course at TISS.
As per the police all the guys belongs to a good family and study in top colleges in Mumbai. What I got from news that this girl did initially not know these boys, while she was invited on a drink party in a bar at Devanr, Chembur by one her female friend, who is also from US. After party her female friend actually left for her place but she went along with these guys to Marol as she wanted to meet some of her friend in Andheri and as per her she was taken to some house in Marol and she was gang raped during night by these guys I feel you all must have read this news but here I have few questions
1. I am not sure after so much of drinks why this girl wanted to go Andheri with unknown guys, while her female friend has actually left after the party?
2. She says that she realized in the morning that she has been raped whole night, which means she was not in sense during night and was absolutely drunk. If that was her condition why her female friend left her with these guys allowed her to go to Andheri in such a condition?
3. As per the guys the girl also wanted to have sex and co-operated, while later she filed complaint for the rape.
4. In this situation it is difficult to entirely blame these guys only; who may lost their entire carrier if they are punished for the rape. The bigger question is how a girl can drink with unknown people in such a way that she goes out of her senses and then how she can agree to go with these guys to such a far place?
Even some time back also I heard the news that a foreign national girl was gang rapped. Every other day we find the news of rape. This is the time when society should find the root cause of this issue other we may keep punishing of so many people for this crime and there of will be many victims of this crime. What I feel there are two ways we can make the changes in our society
Either we go back in old days, when a girl has number restriction. She used to wear the cloths to cover entire body. She was not supposed to make friend with boys. She was not allowed to be out of home alone after evening hour etc etc. She had to leave her study in the early age and she used to get married in the early age.
OR
We get advanced like society in western country. In such case prostitution should be legally allowed in the country under certain rules and regulation. So that people get place to release the pent up energy.
Even what I observe in Mumbai after getting this dance bar banned such cases have increased. I don’t know what we are trying to stop and what kind of culture we are trying to maintain. If we are trying to ban prostitution in the country, please answer ourselves have we been successful in stopping that in so many years. If some parents get worried as their son may also go for a prostitute, if this get legally allowed in the country. I say here bigger worry should be what if he gets filed for some rape case and becomes a criminal.

MUMBAI: “I used to be invited to parties, but once people realised I had an inhibition about having sex, I stopped receiving invitations,” says Ritika Kapoor, a BCom student in Mumbai, citing an example of the pressure on students to be permissive.
A new survey conducted by the International Institute for Population Sciences (IIPS), a UN-based body, confirms that youngsters in India are getting more sexually active. “The reason why most kids had sex was peer pressure. In the case of girls, the commonest reason was pressure from the partner. Many were led to believe that refusing to have sex would ruin the relationship. Annisha Tandon, a 17-year-old student of a suburban Mumbai college, has no qualms over admitting she indulges in sex because she wants to be ‘cool’. “Every weekend my group heads to my friend’s farmhouse at Alibaug. It’s not mandatory to have sex, but we all do it.”
Nitin Khataria, a BMS student at a South Mumbai college, says that a relationship for him begins with sex. “I have dated girls but neither of us ever insists on knowing each other. It is about spending a good time together.”
In an earlier study by the Tata Institute of Social Sciences in Mumbai, more than a third of the respondents reported having sexual intercourse before the age of 18. Now the activity has increased with students having more money to spend as well as opportunity

Hotels have come up around colleges to cater to this young crowd, some offering rooms on an hourly basis, or chadarbadli as they call it, for Rs200-500. A manager at a hotel in Juhu says, “We allow students to use the rooms on an hourly basis. It helps when the business is low.”
“You can also ask the hotel staff for condoms if you forget to carry protection,” says Rina Madan, an 18-year-old. Those who can’t afford hotels go to coffee shops where the staff provides the couple with curtains and dustbins for an extra cost. A popular chain of coffee shops in Mumbai is known to provide students with condoms too on request.
There are other options. A parking lot at a restaurant in Juhu is a popular hub for student sex. Ripal Shah, a 17-year-old commerce student, says, “The parking cost is Rs30. Tip an extra Rs30 to the man who parks your car, and you get to enjoy with your partner at the parking lot itself.”
On week-ends, the action moves to beaches or resorts in Madh, Alibaug and Aksa. “Small hotels on beaches charge only Rs60 for an hour. We spend Rs200 driving to and fro, so it is reasonable,” says Manish Khanna, who drives from Versova to Madh almost every weekend.
Discotheques too have started catering to students. A suburban disc that runs in a hotel offers students the option of staying back in the hotel. “When the manager got to know we were regulars, he asked us for the disco-stamp and offered us a discount on the accommodation,” says Mitesh Kumar, a BMM student.
But even as more youngsters indulge in casual sex, experts say sex education has not kept up with the sexual activity, leading to risky behaviour.
Safety ignoredThe IIPS study across six states, which questioned youngsters in the 15-24 age group, had some startling findings. Less than half of the youth interviewed knew that the first intercourse could make a woman pregnant. Only about a third of the young women had the correct information about condoms, and even fewer were well-informed about oral pills and IUDs. Most of them had no idea about spacing methods.
“Most youngsters have only a superficial knowledge about sex, protection or AIDS. In several cases, youngsters claim to have heard of contraceptives, but when you ask them for specifics they are at a loss. The situation regarding abortion is the same,” says Mohanty.
Doctors say sexually transmitted diseases too are on the rise because of unprotected sex, especially amongst youngsters, many of whom think taking the morning-after pill will do.
“Guys always talk of safe sex, but when they get down to the act, they don’t consider wearing condoms. This is scary, but I always carry pills to be on the safe side,” says Annisha.

Beginnings
(The film industry is the best place to be in. I want to be a part of it all my life,) is what most budding say at every awards function.
This holds true only for star aspirants from well-to-do families. But what about those who leave their homes in search of stardom?

Industry men are said to openly exploit women for roles. But not much has been written about the couch on which men have to sleep for work.
When my father’s friend heard that I wanted to become an actor, he cast me in a small role in his film. I shifted to Mumbai. But I was devastated when he died even before the film started. Luckily, I had made a couple of contracts in Bollywood. I bagged cameo roles in two big films.

Embarassing..shocking
I thought my journey in Bollywood would be easy now. Soon, I got a call from a man who claimed to be the casting director for a medium sized banner’s film. But his office was a congested cubbyhole with a dozen guys waiting in queue. When my turn came, I went into the cabin to find a skinny guy.
He asked me to undress and parade in my undergarments. I grew terribly suspicious. I asked around about these shady people and was shocked to hear that the casting for the film had been completed a week ago. I wasn’t surprised to see the office locked, the next day.
A month later, I came across an ad that invited wannabe models and actors to drop in their pictures. A big break was promised to the right guy.
A couple of days later, I received a call from a man informing me that I was the chosen one. I met him the next day and he made me feel like a star. He said he liked the innocence in my eyes.
I was so gullible that I actually started believing I was a born star. He said I needed little grooming. He said he would help me network. I couldn’t believe my luck.

Shifting focus
One say he invited me to work out at the health club with him. I was in the middle of my work-out when he suddenly called me to the Jacuzzi room.
I was shocked to see him sitting nude with his arm around another nude man. They invited me to join them. This was a culture shock to me.
I was embarrassed and ran away saying I wanted to work out. A couple of similar incidents followed including attempts to get physical with me. I was convinced he was gay. I stopped interacting with him.
But I kept meeting similar sorts in my attempts to meet filmmakers. One of them even claimed to be a star secretary.
My experiences convinced me that those in commanding in the industry want your body, not talent. No one does anyone a favour here.

There is so much work pressure when you’re living in a city like Mumbai. Despite being in a live-in relationship, my girl friend and I had no time for each other. She is often on a month shoots, while I too work long hours.
Eventually, she chooses to have relationship with someone she works with. It was more convenient and frankly, I understand where she is coming from, because I wasn’t giving her the attention she wanted.
After it ended, I tried to get over here by indulging in one casual relationship after another. After finding casual sex in this city is easy-there are enough lonely people, without family and friend, looking for it.
